When my mom was a single mother, we didn’t have much money, so we had to be creative in how we decorated our house. I remember my mom’s ingenuity and resourcefulness as she taught me to make the most of what we had. Playtime for me wasn’t just about games; it was about cleaning, moving furniture, and going to garage and estate sales.

One of my earliest memories is from when we lived in Spring Hill, Florida, a retirement community filled with wonderful elderly neighbors. I loved rummaging for treasures and finding good deals. Exploring other people’s lives through their belongings and giving new life to these once-beloved pieces of furniture was an adventure. The thrill of bringing home our newfound treasures and displaying them with pride filled me with joy.

Our home was also filled with plants, which I tended to like they were sentient beings, sharing my stories with them and feeling their silent guardianship. I loved going to the beach, collecting seashells, and using them to decorate our bathroom, transforming it into a seaside haven.

This passion for transforming spaces and infusing them with personal touches is what “Living Art” means to me. It’s the motto for my art and design consulting business, The Muse Emporium. Your life is your greatest masterpiece, and every piece you choose to include in your space tells a part of your story.

As I reflect on these memories and my journey, I am reminded of a quote that encapsulates my philosophy: “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Edgar Degas. Your home, your life, is your canvas. Fill it with beauty, creativity, and the treasures that speak to your soul.
