Attending the Houston Icons premiere last week at @thehealthmuseum was truly special. Such an inspiring film honoring incredible women who reflect the soul of this city.

Thank you @mahesh_ramsudama for the invitation. The essence of these women came through in a way that felt both powerful and deeply intentional, with each story unfolding quietly and beautifully.

Be sure to explore the series through his link in bio. I’m looking forward to following it as it continues. 🎬🤍💫

As I reflect on my childhood, I’m reminded of the comforting escape that travel provided for my family and me. Growing up amidst the turbulence of my parents’ relationship, those annual Holiday trips to South America – with my mom & brother were more than just vacations—they were lifelines, moments of respite from the storm.

Those journeys held a special significance for me, not just as holidays, but as a respite from the turbulence of my parents’ relationship. Our family dynamic wasn’t always stable; my parents had their struggles, and their separations were a recurring theme in my early years. Despite having the most wonderful mother in the world, the toxicity of their relationship was undeniable. From a young age, I found solace and refuge in the creative depths of my imagination, using travel as a means of escaping the harsh realities of our situation.

I remember those moments of separation, packing our bags, and escaping to Bolivia, my mom’s hometown, seeking solace and support from family. It became a pattern, a cycle of departure and return, as my mom navigated the complexities of her relationship. In those moments, as a young child of five, sitting on the plane bound for South America, I found solace in the belief that life was an adventure waiting to unfold. Escaping into my imagination became a coping mechanism, a way to evade the harsh realities of our situation.

For me, travel wasn’t just a means of exploration; it was an escape from toxicity, a quest for safety and tranquility. However, I soon learned that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side—sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn’t. It’s a realization that many children grapple with, seeking refuge in creativity and imagination to cope with the complexities of reality.

Throughout my life, the intertwined threads of travel and art have been my sanctuary, my refuge from life’s storms. In the upcoming blog posts, I’ll delve deeper into how these two passions have shaped my journey and provided me with solace and inspiration during both the tumultuous and tranquil chapters of my life.
